Dispensary Access

A professional starting point for referred clients - 30 min | $45

If you've been sent my way by a midwife, naturopath, nutritionist, or other health practitioner — welcome. You're in the right place.

Fairfield Herbals is a professional compounding herbal dispensary, which means it operates a little differently than a health food store or bulk herb shop. Under Canadian Natural Health Product regulations, I'm required to have an established practitioner-client relationship before I can dispense herbs on your behalf. That's not just legal fine print — it means every client who comes through my dispensary has had at least a brief professional assessment, and what you receive is appropriate for you specifically, not just appropriate in general.

The Dispensary Access Consult is designed to make that first step easy, affordable, and genuinely useful.

What we cover in 30 minutes:

  • A brief health and medication screen to confirm the recommended formula is a safe fit for you

  • A review of your current health picture as it relates to your herbal need

  • Dispensing of your recommended herb(s) or formula

  • Guidance on preparation, dosing, and what to watch for

  • A clear path to refills and ongoing dispensary access

After your consult: You'll be an established client of Fairfield Herbals, which means future refills are simple — no repeat intake required for the same formula. And if your needs evolve or you'd like broader herbal support down the road, we already have a foundation to build on.

This appointment is the right fit if:

  • You've been referred by a health practitioner with a specific herbal recommendation

  • Your need is focused and relatively straightforward (a pregnancy tonic, a single herb, a practitioner-prescribed blend)

  • You're not currently navigating multiple or complex health concerns

This appointment is not the right fit if:

  • You're dealing with several health concerns and want a comprehensive herbal assessment

  • You'd like to discuss your full health history and develop a broader herbal protocol

  • You're unsure what you need and want guidance in figuring that out

For those situations, the Initial Consultation (90 min | $175) is where we'd start.

A note on why this matters

Herbal medicine is safe, effective, and time-tested — and it's also real medicine. Even gentle, food-grade herbs like those in a classic pregnancy tonic deserve a professional eye. This consult isn't a bureaucratic hurdle. It's how I make sure you're getting the right thing, in the right form, at the right time for where you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at heather@fairfieldherbals.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Why can't I just order from you directly?

This is the question I hear most, and it's a fair one — especially if you've bought herbs from a health food store or online retailer before.

Fairfield Herbals is a professional compounding herbal dispensary, not a public retail shop. Under Canadian Natural Health Product (NHP) regulations, compounding herbalists are required to dispense within an established practitioner-client relationship. That means before I can prepare or dispense herbs for you, we need to have met professionally — even briefly.

This isn't red tape for its own sake. It exists because compounded herbal preparations are made specifically for an individual, and a professional assessment ensures that what you receive is appropriate for your health picture, not just appropriate in general.

I was referred by my midwife / naturopath / nutritionist. Does that count?

It's a wonderful start, and I'm always glad when other practitioners send clients my way — but it doesn't replace our own intake, unfortunately. Your referring practitioner knows your care from their perspective; I need a brief assessment from mine before I can dispense on your behalf.

The good news: if you arrive with a clear referral and a specific formula in mind, the process is simple and affordable. See the Dispensary Access Consult above.

What if I just need something simple — like a pregnancy tonic or a single herb?

That's exactly what the Dispensary Access Consult (30 min | $45) is designed for. It's a focused professional visit that establishes our relationship, includes a brief safety screen, and gets you what you came for — without the time or investment of a full initial consultation.

It's the right starting point for referred clients with a defined, low-complexity herbal need.

If you're not sure which is right for you, get in touch and I'll point you in the right direction.

What does "compounding" mean?

In herbal medicine, compounding means preparing a formula specifically for an individual client — blending herbs in particular combinations, ratios, and forms (tea, tincture, capsule, etc.) based on their unique needs. It's the difference between an off-the-shelf supplement and something made with your health picture in mind.

Fairfield Herbals operates as a compounding dispensary, which means everything dispensed here is prepared professionally and with a clinical eye — including formulas that might look simple on the surface.

Do I need to come in person?

Not necessarily. Consultations can be held virtually, depending on your preference and location. Herb orders can be arranged for pickup at my home-based clinic, or shipped within Canada.

I'm a naturopath / midwife / other practitioner. Can I refer clients to you?

Yes, and I welcome referrals from other regulated and registered practitioners. Fairfield Herbals offers wholesale dispensary services to naturopathic and midwifery clinics across Alberta. If you'd like to discuss a referral relationship or wholesale account, please reach out directly.
